After 2 weeks of hospitality from our friends Bob Jarrett and John Lewis at Essex Boat Works, we cut lines on May 4, heading southeast to Stamford, CT, where we'll prepare Long Way Home for the expedition. Captain Bulldog set the course, running down the Connecticut River, past Old Saybrook, and into the sound at cruising speed for the rest of the trip.
Captain Bulldog had a few rules for us.
Rule 1. Don't f*ck up.
Rule 2. There are two ways to do things. My way, and again.
Rule 3. There are no insignificant sights, sounds and smells on a boat.
Hit with rain for our first night in Stamford -- no surprise -- it's been raining all spring! But it's good to be settled.
